The Distance Learning Centre (DLC) has been a specialized unit within the structure of ULSIT since 21.12.2007 by resolution of the Academic Council, which operates in compliance with the Higher Education Act, the Ordinance of State Requirements for organising distance learning form of education in higher schools and the normative documents of ULSIT. The activities of the for Distance Learning Center (DLC) are related to the planning and organisational support of the training conducted by the main units for the educational and qualification degrees “Bachelor” and “Master” in a distance format. Its main function is to provide methodological and administrative support for the implementation of the distance learning format.

The DLC organises training in the following specialties:

  • “National Security” for acquiring a Bachelor's degree;
  • “Information Systems and Technologies” for acquiring a Master‘s degree;
  • “Software Engineering” for acquiring a Master‘s degree;
  • “Library-Information and Cultural Management” for acquiring a Master‘s degree.

The distance learning format is equivalent to the full-time form of study regarding the content of the curriculum, the required number of credits for the respective specialty, and the diploma for the acquired educational and qualification degree and professional qualification. Distance learning is an organization of the educational process in which the student and the lecturer are separated by location but not necessarily by time. This distance is compensated for by technological means: audio, video, computer, and communication technologies and tools.

The organisation of distance learning for students includes periods of on-site learning (lectures) that cannot exceed 15% of the total number of hours for the respective specialty in the regular form of study. These sessions are conducted according to a pre-prepared and published schedule and take place only at weekends. The remaining hours are carried out in the form of self-study, synchronous and asynchronous communication with lecturers and assistants, tests, preparation of coursework, projects, and other activities provided in the curriculum of the respective course. Training in these sessions is conducted on the ILIAS distance learning platform and through the use of video conferencing software. Semester exams are conducted in person, following a pre-announced schedule and in accordance with the regulatory documents of ULSIT.
