Institute for Scientific Research and Doctoral Studies (ISRDS)

ISRDS at ULSIT is a major unit of the university established under Art. 25, Para. 2 and Art. 26 (b), Para. 1 and Para. 2 of the Higher Education Act. It was founded under the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria № 225 of 1 November 2010, published in the Official Gazette, issue 88 of 9 September 2010 and the Academic Council of ULSIT from 21 December 2010 and acts in accordance with the Higher Education Act (HEA), the Law on Academic Staff Development in the Republic of Bulgaria (LASDRB) and the Labor Code (LC), subject to the Regulations on the Planning, Management and Operations (RPMO) of ULSIT and the Regulations of ULSIT following the enforcement of the Law on Academic Staff Development in the Republic of Bulgaria.

The overall activity of the Institute is carried out in accordance with the national values ​​and interests, the state policy in the field of library studies and information sciences and European educational values, based on the law of the country in the field of higher education, science and the educational policy of ULSIT.

The subject activity of the Institute is:

  • Long-term research and training of graduate students in scientific fields where ULSIT has a valid accreditation by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (NEAA) for doctoral studies;
  • Instruction in MA programs (with other major units of ULSIT) as continuing education for specialists and non-specialists in professional fields in which ULSIT has a valid accreditation by NEAA;
  • Qualification of specialists with higher and secondary education;
  • Cooperation with various research, educational and other organizations in the country and abroad.
  • Provides expertise and consultation services.

The Mission of the Institute is to:

  • Create and disseminate new knowledge and new scientific and applied products;
  • Ensure continuous development of scientific research and applied activities;
  • Provides opportunities for continuous self-learning and improvement, supporting the academic community that sets new standards in scientific research and continuing education of highly qualified personnel, stimulating the development of tolerant scientific interactions in accordance with the national, European and universal norms and values​​;
  • Be a library and information, educational and cultural center that meets the current requirements, combining tradition and new technologies;
  • Ensure the coordination, methodological guidance and control of the implementation of the Law on Academic Staff Development in the Republic of Bulgaria (LASDRB) and the Regulations thereto of ULSIT.

The Main Aims of the Institute are to:

  • Do scientific research in areas aimed at developing scientific knowledge, improving the educational process and supporting the social practice in which ULSIT has a valid accreditation by NEAA;
  • Train PhD candidates in accordance with the LASDRB, the Regulations on its implementation and the Higher Education Act, in research areas in which ULSIT has a valid accreditation by the NEAA; the formation of specialists with high qualifications and expert knowledge, in accordance with its educational mission, national and European standards for higher education;
  • Conduct in cooperation with other major units of ULSIT training in MA programs for specialists and non-specialists in occupational areas where ULSIT has a valid accreditation;
  • Develop joint activities with similar units from universities in the country and abroad, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, ministries, agencies and all businesses and public organizations in the country and abroad;
  • Organize and conduct scientific events (conferences, symposia, seminars, workshops, etc.) as well as issue and provide access to the published proceedings and other scientific materials;
  • The Basic Priorities of the research activities of the Institute are:
  • Developing and maintaining expertise in the areas in which ULSIT has a valid accreditation by NEAA, in accordance with European standards;
  • Achieving unity of research and teaching;
  • Deployment of new forms and implementation of promising technologies for continuing education.
